Los Angeles, CA
Adaptive reuse and partial reconstruction of the 8-story “Ghost Hotel” in downtown Los Angeles. Built in 1905 as an annex to the celebrated Alexandria Hotel, the upper floors have been vacant and inaccessible since 1937, following a dispute between the owner of the annex and the owner of the Alexandria, who bricked up the common hallways.
The project consists of the conversion of the hotel to apartments on the upper floors, and lobby and restaurant/commercial space on the ground floor. The scope includes preservation of the historic façade and first floor (originally the hotel’s dining room), and reconstruction of the upper floors. Two additional floors are planned, set back from the street beyond the sightline of the historic façade. The project also includes the restoration of the opulent historic fabric on the first floor. The Annex is expected to begin construction in 2019.
